The artist describing the motive for an autonomous language

Pierre Huyghe asked for a language made by artificial intelligence. It was to be set into the wild and left to its own devices, evolving on its own without explicit control.

An intelligent Idiom mask
We designed and built a semisupervised system using a combination of GANs, LLMs, and random sequencers. The masks, a kind of autonomous species, were the language bearers. The masks assigned phonemes to objects and behaviors that they observed through object detection, image segmentation, and image processing algorithms.

The Idiom masks would vocalize and share their utterances between themselves, which evolved into an ephemeral vocabulary.
